worship wars continued [contextual ministry]

Mark Driscoll, pastor of Mars Hill Church-Seattle, says it best:

The principles of worship should never change, but the methods should IF we care about reaching lost people in the various cultural pockets that exist in the world.

I agree with puritanbob that we should be ‘conformed to God’s standards of what is acceptable worship.’ But let’s be careful not to impose upon God’s Word that which it is silent about.

Good response…I have to think more about this. Driscoll’s point about cross cultural missionaries and the way they strive to be relevant is the same as we need to be in the way we present the gospel (worship being part of that). Hmmm good stuff (I might be eating some humble pie as I rethink this some more) I don’t know much about Driscoll but I really really respect John Piper and the other team members he has put together for the conference this fall.

I have some objection to what he said but again I need to think over this some more. As a Calvinist I just wonder how much we need to adapt our worship methods to what the culture likes (in an inviting sense) the main thing in my mind is clarity of the gospel message. Good response Brad.
