Consider the following:

1. God is an excellent creator.
2. Excellent creators make excellent works.
3. ∴ God creates excellent works.

1. God creates excellent works.
2. God made man. ^[1]
3. ∴ Man is an excellent work.

Is is a Humanist argument? I don’t think it necessarily is.

I revel in all of God’s creations. The delicate flowers, the powerful lions, the mighty seas, beautiful forest covered valleys in Tennessee, the oceans, the stars, math, and man. They reflect on their creator, just like a son reflects on His father.

God loves man. God loves man so much at He sent a part of himself to die for our sins. What God loves, surely has worth.

I am merely trying to own up to these truths of God and love man as He does ^[2] . He placed us at the forefront of His creation^[3] , with the hope that we would choose to love Him back. That is His glory, a creation that loves Him back. That is the freedom God gave man, with all of its dangers, God loved us enough to let us reject Him.

Nothing is taken away from God if we acknowledge that man is made well and can do great things. This does not mean that man is the measure of all things, nor that man is not fallible. All of man, save Jesus, the God-man have sinned and therefore fallen short of the glory of God:
Romans 3:21-26

²¹But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it– ²² the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: ²³for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. ²⁶It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

I am no humanist, I just try to see things as they are. It is not my intention to throw aloft the position of man to the equal of God. Far be it! Instead, I want to rescue man’s position from the extra-lowliness that some parts of Christianity have placed it. When I realize the intrinsic worth of my fellow human, I can love them despite their mistakes, just like God loves me despite mine.
