i am going to do a post detailing my position on Scripture soon.

first, ration can be a means by which God can be known. it can absolutely be a part of the 'path.' we can definitely ask 'any question' we want of Scripture.

but ration alone can not be the ends to the means. i agree with Augustine that the if the interpretor is honestly trying to seek the truth and understand the meaning of the text, he will find the meaning of the text. but this happens through the leading of the Holy Spirit AND through Scripture interpreting itself. if there is a doctrine that is contrary to other widely held doctrine, one must look very carefully at why there is a discrepancy.

second, I affirm that we should allow individuals to address concerns openly. we should never reject those questioning. God is not afraid of the questions. but as a spiritual leader, it is my responsibility to remind individuals of the authority, inerrancy, clarity, and necessity of Scripture. as the questions are welcomed AND the call to healthy Biblical interpretation intersect, i believe community with other believers IS strengthened. if not, we just have endless questions and God is not a God of confusion...
