Revisiting the torn curtain in Mark

I blogged over at Think Wink about the symbolism in Mark’s imagery of the torn veil in Mark 15:37-38. I pray you are as blessed by this new (or for some of you of you not so new) approach to understanding this imagery. You can read it here, A Sermon Idea for Easter?

Free Seminary Classes

I don’t know if anyone here is interested or not, since most of us are probably in school and are busy beyond belief, but Reformed Theological Seminary has put the audio of some of its courses on iTunes at iTunes U. They cover some decent topics like both OT and NT, philosophy, ethics, apologetics, systematic [...]

Theology: The Central Question

Today I was reading some more of Jonathan Edwards’s “A Dissertation Concerning the End for Which God Created the Wold.” In it I read this statement in Chapter 1, Dictate 4, paragraph 38,
Hence it will follow, that the moral rectitude of the disposition, inclination, or affection of God CHIEFLY consists in a regard to HIMSELF, [...]

Objections to Calvinism Part 5 of 5

This is probably not going to be the last post in this series, because I want to address the idea of “divine rape” in God’s effectual call and irresistible grace. This fifth post is going to be on Predestination and Prayer. In Part 4, I argued that Calvinism does not hinder prayer, but that God [...]

Something Very Disturbing

Watch this video and see if you think people are going too far with their eschatology, and profiting from it.

John 1:1 and the New World Translation

If you ever wanted to understand how John 1:1 is to be translated “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” when the Greek reads kai theos en (e = ate) o logos, then here is an article that gets into the technical reasonings behind this [...]

Objections to Calvinism Part 4 of 5

Today I want to discuss the next objection on my list, Election and Evangelism. Let me review the series so far. In the first post, I tried to distinguish historic, five-point Calvinism from hyper-Calvinism. In the second post, I showed that election in a Reformed soteriology is not a source of pride and arrogance, but [...]

2 Peter 2:1 Exegeted.

I came across this interesting article at Alpha and Omega Ministries. It considers 2 Peter 2:1 and whether or not it teaches one can be bought by Jesus and still lose their salvation. The exegesis of this text is very well done and worth the read. I commend it to the readers here to consider, [...]

Story of the Day

I don’t know if you have heard this story or not but I was very encouraged by it today.
One year at the Feast of the Tabernacles, the Pharisees decided to retry a previous trick on Jesus while the Lord and the twelve were in Jerusalem (John 8:1-11). Again they had caught a prostitute in the [...]

Objections to Calvinism Part 3 of 5

I am moving ahead full steam in my series on “Objections to Calvinism.” The next three posts in this series will deal with objections that I have personally encountered, mostly at Theology for the Masses. In my previous post, I examined the objection that election is a source for pride. I argued that a person [...]

Objections to Calvinism Part 2 of 5

The first objection that I want to tackle in my series on “Objections to Calvinism” is that of Election and Pride. Now this is not an objection that has personally been raised to me. No one has actually said to me, “I am not a Calvinist because it makes you prideful and arrogant.” But I [...]

Objections to Calvinism Part 1 of 5

I want to begin a post series trying my best to answer some objections to the doctrines of Grace that I have encountered over the last two-plus years. The ones that I will attempt to answer are these: Election leads men to be proud and arrogant because they are “elect;” Why should I pray according [...]

The Book of Abraham

Here is the link to an incredible video on Youtube.com in which the Institute of Religious Research presented the case for the Mormon Scripture of the Book of Abraham is not an accurate translation. If the Book of Abraham cannot be trusted, then may be the book of Mormon can’t be trusted either. Check out [...]

Weaknesses in the Church Today

At my blog, I wrote a post entitled “Does the God in American Evangelicalism Produce Fear?” When we look around, we can see that our church is divided and weak. The Anglican Communion and the PCUSA have rejected the authority of the Bible as the sole authority for the church. The church won’t preach the [...]

Sunday Morning Drive and Particular Redemption

This morning as I drove to church, a conversation played out in my head of me articulating Particular Redemption and still not contradicting the universal texts (i.e. 1 Timothy 2:4; Hebrews 2:9; 2 Peter 3:9). See if this doesn’t deny these texts.
1.) Christ’s atonement bought the New Covenant (Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:25).
2.) The New [...]
